hospital life

Amy and Max are scheduled to check out of the hospital tomorrow afternoon. They've been running tests throughout the day today, and everything has come up fine. They did do a hearing test that showed he couldn't hear some things - but the lady doing the test thought he was 24 hours old, not 12 as he was. So he likely has a lot of baby stuff in his ears. We've had plenty of visitors all day, and Max seems to enjoy the attention. Amy and her aunt filmed me attempting my first diaper change ever. I thought i did a pretty good job - except the washcloth was a bit too cold and he peed all over amy and the bed. He makes all sorts of funny noises and faces and is an absolute doll. See the photo album link below for more...

the ten year plan to repair the parking lot behind my office is going along great. they've managed to move the jackhammers closer to my window... about 20 to 30 feet now i think. notices that's jackhammer(s) in the plural. 4 to 5 in constant use pounding away at the concrete (which runs beneath the building... so the whole place is shaking too) they only work from 9ish to 4 or so, so i do have a respite for an hour in the evening.
i'm gonna break something.
my hands are positively charged for you

It's been a loooong week, but no baby yet. my mother is in town until today, she was hoping to witness the event... but nope. the kid's not moving. Doctor Joe is going to induce on Saturday if he's not made a move by then. So there will be a new Max in the world before Sunday. that's all she wrote.
i'm so lazy it hurts

or busy... one of the two. not that there's anything to ""do"" per say, just the act of waiting on this little bugger to come out is plenty. he's completely given up. not the slightest tremor of contraction today.
having a baby makes you respond much more viscerally to news that some insane women beat her baby to death on a street curb last night. i heard that on the radio and felt my insides curl.
i am not a soccer dad. i will not wear purple polo shirts and khaki shorts. i will not vote republican, drive an suv or listen to dave matthews. say this three times every morning.
happy.... etc

yesterday was my birthday, and amy made me the worlds biggest birthday card out of the cardboard that our new armoire came in. she's a doll like that.
we had cake and she bought me a memory foam pillow. Chili mac sang happy birthday to me from inside the womb, but nobody else could hear it. Amy thought it would be funny to buy 26 trick candles that resist being blown out. which just about cost all of us our lives. you can't pick out 26 candles in time before they melt all over the cake. and these trick ones shoot sparks all over the place. yeah, so that was fun. we ate barbecue (or maybe that was the day before) and saw a big car wreck...
